Londoner Joe Attard & the Swede David Andersson are the two likeminded opposites that make up Punks Jump Up.

During the last 4 years they have released disco club smashes like Blockhead, Get Down (Special CCCrash Mixxx) & Dance To Our Disco on the Parisian label Kitsune & the anthemic Chimes pt 1 track on the kleinTanz label.

In addition to their own releases they have also done official remixes of everyone from Miike Snow, Lykke Li, Gossip, Robyn, Ladyhawke, Crystal Castles, Chromeo, Tiga to Joakim, Oliver, Ladytron, Yelle, In Flagranti, Housse De Racket, Supermen Lovers & Peter Bjorn & John.

Joe & David love the cutting edge of punk & alternative culture but have never shied from a good melody. They feel just as home in pop music as in dance music, hence their love of remixing indie & pop songs & turning them into dance floor gems. They have always been into all aspects of popular culture & come from a background punk & dance music, street art, fashion & style. The DIY ideology has also played a large roll in the birth of Punks Jump Up & has constantly been driving them to make more music but also to set up their own record label & clothing brand.

Punks Jump Up started in 2004 by putting on parties in east London for proto hipsters, fashion suspects & weirdos in general. The ‘anything goes’ policy typical of the area & zeitgeist summed up Joe & David’s taste & musical outlook & this has followed them into the life of producing music & creating the visual aspect of the PJU universe.

In 2004 they set up their own label Cassette Records, responsible for the release of their first 12” called Be You (Beep Beep) & one of the earliest releases from Simian Mobile Disco. Cassette released a handful of 12” EPs with original, quirky but accessible dance music. The releases were also famous at the time for their hand screen print sleeves.

Joe & David, strongly believing that style & fashion are as a big part of music culture, also set up their own T shirt brand named Stiff Couture. Kate Moross (the now well established & self made illustrator & designer) was the first one to make a t shirt for the label. The t shirts were sold world wide & also heavily bootlegged in Russia & South East Asia.

During all this time Punks Jump Up were also touring heavily & going to pretty much every country in Europe, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, China, Singapore & Jakarta. A tour of the USA is also scheduled for June/July 2012.

Touring aside, Joe & David have spent most of the last year working on new Punks Jump Up releases.

The next one up is a song called Mr Overtime & features the golden voice of Dave1 from Chromeo.

This, as far as PJU’s own material goes, is more a step into “pop” territory. PJU have always been into the musical concept of a good hook delivered with a rough edge. Same goes with the song Mr Overtime. This is a catchy & highly danceable song but it also has a slightly darker, lyrical undertone of paranoia & night time deviance. The single is released by Moda Recordings on April 30th 2012 & comes with remixes from Mickey, Oliver & Gigamesh.
