Light Year was created many ions ago in a celestial orb eastside of Sydney Australia. In mathematical terms 1+1 = 2 but -1 and it equates to a new dawning for Light Year, a streamlined, a Light Year 1.0 or numero uno.
LY saw the release ‘Night/Vision’ featuring the now cult classic ‘Sex Education’ brought into an international spotlight; eagerly played out, happily edited and highly recommended by the likes of Soulwax, Erol Alkan, Tiga and Mr Oizo. This was only the start, for the release of ‘5 Girls’ 6 months later was met with an even greater reception, getting a thorough tanning from deejays all over the world including those turning the wheels at BBC Radio 1. Soon remix requests came for the likes of The Bag Raiders, Surkin, ZZT, Alex Gopher, Classixx & Feadz.
2011 has also brought jaunts of both Europe and America, both continents playing host to a dozen plus packed out club soirees. Upon returning home LY performed a run of sell out gigs nationally including Splendour In The Grass and Parklife to celebrate the ‘5 Girl5 Remixed’ release, which featured handiwork from Strip Steve, Harvard Bass, Alex Gopher, and more. Now firmly nestled between the hip and tail bone of late night revelers, LY has dialed in the future.
With two EPs and two continental club tours under the belt, Light Year is forward thinking in a large vortex of momentum. Wind even whispers news of a massive new single release before 2011 comes to an end with more national and international touring to follow. Stay close, as this is a new beginning, a Light Year renaissance, so fear not the future is only Light Years away.
