Drums Of Death is the alter-ego of Colin Bailey, a Scottish musician. Drums Of Death emerged from London’s club scene in early 2008 and after Joe Goddard from Hot Chip and Alex Waldron heard a tape of his music they signed him to their record label and party crew: Greco-Roman. Stories quickly began to emerge in the press that he was cursed by some voodoo magic and had his heart cut out and replaced with a broken drum machine.
Whilst keeping his real face a secret with black and white paint and refusing to answer questions about these rumours about this curse he performed on stages around the world from Los Angeles to Bangkok, to London to Berlin and everywhere in between… As his reputation for ferocious solo performances grew there appeared whispers about a live band and…an album!
He has remixed artists such as Hot Chip, Tricky, Franz Ferdinand, Mando Diao, James Yuill, Steve Mason, Drop The Lime, Alphabeat and Mika. He co-wrote the title track of Peaches’ album “I Feel Cream” as well as producing a free 40 minute mixtape of reworked version of her music for XL Recordings / Beggars Group.
In late 2008 Rob Da Bank of Radio 1 and Bestival has been a major supporter and brought Bailey in to perform for the BBC Introducing series recorded at the Maida Vale, London. Also in 2008 he was nominated in DJ Mag’s “Breakthrough producer of the year” category for their end of year awards. In December 2009 “Breathe” from Drums Of Death’s first 12” vinyl single was included in Dazed & Confused’s “Greatest electronica songs of the decade”, his track with Peaches “I Feel Cream” was also included.
Bestival 2009 saw the debut of the Drums Of Death live band… the extension of the solo performance, this band is something wild and powerful… They will tour heavily in the next year to support the album.
Yes, the album…now 2 years from the initial meeting with Greco-Roman and with a mere 2 singles officially released., he is ready to set free the record of 2 years work. An album of love songs and rave horns: “Generation Hexed” will be released in July 2010.
